The Marion School District Choir program shined at this week’s Northeast Arkansas Region 1 Choral Performance Assessment in Jonesboro, with the MHS Concert Choir leading the way with straight “Superior” ratings.

Earning “1” ratings in both performance and sight-reading, the Concert Choir qualified to participate in the All-State Choir Festival later this year, where top choirs from across Arkansas will have the opportunity to perform.

Also delivering strong performances were the Marion Junior High School 8th Grade Mixed Choir and 9th Grade Mixed Choir, who each earned a rating of “2” (Excellent) in their stage performance and a rating of “1” (Superior) in sight-reading.

“I am extremely proud of the hard work demonstrated by all of our choir students,” said Alvin Coleman, Marion director of choirs. “They represented Marion Junior High School, Marion High School, and the Marion School District with excellence and professionalism.”

The Choral Performance Assessment is the annual evaluation for school choirs across the state and measures ensembles on tone quality, musicianship, interpretation, diction, and overall ensemble performance, along with sight-reading proficiency. These results reflect the dedication, discipline, and musical growth of our students throughout the year.
