On Saturday, December 2, 57 Marion 8th and 9th grade band members earned positions in the ASBOA Region IV Honor Band. Auditions were held at Cabot Junior High South.
There are 230 chair positions available in the Honor Band -- 115 in 1st band and 115 in 2nd band. Here is how Marion compares with the rest of the region:
Cabot - 114 (chairs) 15 alternates
Marion - 50 (chairs) 7 alternates
Searcy - 21 (chairs) 4 alternates
West Memphis - 16 (chairs) 5 alternates
Bald Knob - 12 (9 chairs) 3 alternates
Lonoke - 8 (chairs) 3 alternates
Riverview - 6 (chairs) 1 alternate
Stuttgart - 5 (chairs) 1 alternate
(Several smaller schools had 2 or 3 students each.)
"This is an outstanding number for the Marion Band program!" said Martion Director of Bands Monty Hill. "I am most encouraged by the fact we had a record number make the 1st band, with 31!"
51% of the Marion students who auditioned for the Honor Band qualified. This was second to only Cabot, who had 57% of students qualify.
