Marion High School was one of only 100 schools in Arkansas to earn reward money from the state as a result of student achievement gains on 2022 standardized tests.
MHS received $42,550 as a result of ranking in the top 10% of Arkansas schools for student growth. The school received the funds earlier this school year. Marion High School was one of only two schools in Crittenden County (along with Earle High School) to earn reward money.
Under state guidelines, a committee was formed to determine how the money would be used. The committee voted unanimously to use 100% of the reward money for a nonrecurring bonus to the faculty and staff of Marion High School. All certified and classified staff assigned to MHS received the same amount.
“We are incredibly proud of our students and staff for the results we are producing for student growth,” said Dr. Mike Skelton, MHS principal. “It shows the efforts our teachers are putting forth in our classrooms are working. Students are learning. They are growing. Even in the wake of the profound learning loss that occurred in schools across the country during the pandemic, this is encouraging to see.”
The reward money was part of the Arkansas School Recognition Program, which was created in 2017 to provide financial awards to public schools that experience high student performance, student academic growth, and for secondary schools, a high graduation rate.
