For the first time in school history, the Marion band program will host the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association Concert Assessment Tuesday (March 7) in the Marion Performing Arts Center.

The ASBOA is comprised of nine regions. Most of eastern Arkansas competes in Region IV and will be required to perform three concert selections for three judges and one selection for a sight-reading judge.

Marion will have four bands performing that compete with groups at the high school and junior high levels. Junior high bands that earn a first division in concert and sight reading will earn the coveted ASBOA Sweepstakes Award. High school bands also have to also earn a first division at Marching Assessment in the fall to qualify for a sweepstakes award. The Marion High School Band will be the only high school band performing that day to qualify for this award.

“The wonderful Marion Performing Arts Center is the reason we earned this bid to host this event,” said Marion Director of Bands Monty Hill. “The Marion School District’s commitment to the arts has become very evident to our state band organization.”
